Wool
Sir, —Mr Jack Acland has stated that “the loss of our wool trade would be an unimaginable disaster for this country.” There is no doubt about that, but what is our Government and the Wool Board doing about the threat of synthetics locally? Our so-called woollen mills are increasingly manufacturing garments from synthetic fibres. Why does our Government allow the free importation of these fibres, especially when the Minister of Customs is always crying that we are short of overseas funds? It baffles me. I buy pure woollen goods whenever possible, and refuse to shop if I cannot get them. It should be remembered by all New Zealanders that we live by wool, we starve by synthetics. Yours etc. WOOLLY.
