Supplies were well in excess of traders’ requirements on London’s Smithfield market, with prices for homekilled meat and chilled beef falling steadily from Monday’s opening quotations, the New Zealand Meat Proucers’ Board market information service reports. Trading in fair pitchings of New Zealand lamb was adversely affected by the general conditions but the recent firmness for the lighter weights was maintained. Quotations for the main grade (29/361b) were unchanged from last week. New Zealand beef was not quoted. Increased supplies of New Zealand hoggets and wethers sold slowly with the main grade of hoggets (49/561b) quoted at 15d to 16d per lb and wethers at 15d to 15Jd per lb.
