Soccer More Popular

For the first time, slx-a-slde soccer proved more popular than seven-a-side Rugby in the Canterbury Life Boys’ sports tournament which started on Saturday. Eleven Soccer teams and eight Rugby teams took part in the three district sections which were held. The first Ranglora team, holder of the F. B. Smith Rugby Cup, and the seventh Christchurch, holder of the W. R. Johns Soccer Challenge Cup, both won their link competitions enabling them to defend their titles in the area tournament. One Rugby and one Soccer team will represent each of the five links in Christchurch and North Canterbury at the Canterbury area competition on Saturday, September 24. One Rugby team has been entered from Ashburton and an invitation has been sent to the Otago area to enter two teams. Otago is also to play Canterbury for the Stedfast Shield the same day.
