BARRAGE BALLOONS

Barrage balloons, similar to those hoisted over London during the Battle of Britain, are being sent aloft over North Vietnam in attempts to turn back low-flying American jets. The balloons, seen over Hanoi and the port of Haiphong, are about 12 to 15 feet in diameter. The balloons, rising in great arcs over the north, have caused some American planes to turn away.
