STAMP STORY
Now this unusual museum has been commemorated by ia set of special stamps—(underlining the fact that the romance of the Wild West i still retains its unfailing appeal in Czechoslovakia as in other countries. The designs of the stamps are taken from exhibits in Naprstek’s collection, and so can be guaranteed accurate. Illustrated here is the 20 heller value—depicting the tepee, the typical conical tent of the prairie Indians, i In a tepee it was possible to light a fire, the smoke escaping through a hole at the top. and the stamp clearly shows the two movable flaps bv which the draught was regulated. The stamp also illustrates a genuine Indian canoe.
Red Indians are not well represented in the stamp album—so this set helps to restore the balance. One of the few earlier European stamps to show a Red Indian was issued by Sweden in 1938 to mark the 300th anniversary of the founding of the Swedish colonies in America.
