BOYS’ BRIGADE TREK

Postponement To October 15 A 25-mile sponsored trek, organised by the Canterbury battalion of the Boys’ Brigade, originally planned for October 1, would now be held in Christchurch on October 15, said the publicity officer for the brigade (Mr W. F. Bishop) yesterday. About 1000 boys are expected to raise more than £lBOO from the trek, which will be held to help raise £15,000 for the new Boys’ Brigade camp site at Waipara.

Each boy taking part in the trek will have a minimum of 12 sponsors who will sponsor'him at a minimum of 3d a mile for the distance he covers.

Mr Bishop said it was not a race, but prizes would be given to the boy collecting the most money, and to the boy who had the most sponsors. The course will begin at the Christchurch Technical Institute, and will proceed along Colombo street to the Sign of the Takahe. It will continue along the Summit road, through Evans Pass to Sumner, and return to the Technical Institute by way of Ferry road.

A shorter course of about nine miles for the Life Bovs will also be held. This will begin at the Opawa Methodist Church. The boys will trek up the Rapaki Track, along the Summit road, down the Bridle Path to Heathote. They will return along Bridle Path road through Opawa to the starting point.
