Light Fingers To Resume At Flemington Today

(Special Crspdt. N.Z.P.A.) MELBOURNE. The highlight of the racing at Flemington today will be the reappearance of New Zealandbred Melbourne Cup winner. Light Fingers, after a long spell. The Le Filou mare will return after recovering from a severe leg injury which threatened to cut short her racing career. Light Fingers suffered a deep cut to her near hind leg during the St. George Stakes at Caulfield on February 26.

She will meet star-studded field in the weight-for age Craiglee Stakes (one mile), which Includes the Caulfield Cup favourite. Tobin Bronze, the Doomben Cup winner, Finfreux. Bowl King, Gala Crest, Citlus. and the New Zealand veteran Sir Dane. Light Fingers won the Craiglee Stakes last year. Another Interesting runner today will be Ziema, which was last year’s unlucky cups runner, finishing second in both the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups.

Ziema is favourite for th. Lord Mayor's Plate, but has to contend with the top-weight of 9-5. Also in the Held will be the New Zealand horses, Alaska and Bastille.
