Technical Hitch

(N.Z. Press Assn —Copyright) CANBERRA, Sept. 9. New Zealand's objections to Australia's new quarantine restrictions on imported cheese were purely technical, the senior Trade Commissioner (Mr A. E. Monaghan) said today.-

“We don’t quibble at Australia’s desire to introduce measures to control brucellosis,” Mr Monaghan said. “But there is some disagreement on the technical way of this and we

are having talks with the Australian Health Department to see if there is some formula by which our purely technical objections can be overcome.”

Mr Monaghan said the Australia-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement gave full freedom for quarantine action.

The agreement provided for imports of 270 tons of New Zealand cheddar-type cheese to increase to 400 tons this year.
