CANTERBURY BANK

New Picton Branch

The Canterbury Savings Bank will open a branch at Picton on September 16. The new branch is in High street, the main shopping area. The president of the bank (Mr G. R. Burrowes) said the trustees had considered opening a branch at Picton for some time. Picton had a rapidly increasing population and was a vital link in road and rail traffic between the South and North Islands. Many Canterbury people were frequent visitors to Picton and the Sounds during summer.

Picton will be the twentysecond branch of the bank, which was established in 1962. Depositors’ funds now exceed £ll} million to the credit of more than 57,000 people. The Marlborough division of the bank was opened in Blenheim in December, 1964.

The manager of the Picton branch will be Mr C. C. Hill, of Picton.
