Cool Store For Mt Maunganui

.Yew Zealand Press Association)

AUCKLAND. September 9

A cool store to hold 8500 tons of butter, will be built at Mt Maunganui, a meeting of representatives of dairy co-operatives in the Auckland province decided in Auckland.

Sir Andrew Linton, chairman Of the Dairy Board, said the need for additional cool storage in the province was urgent.

“We want this store started before the end of this year, and we expect to have it completed eany in 1968. “During its first year of operation, Bay of Plenty dairy-co-operatives will put about 34,000 tons of butter through it for export from Mount Maunganui. This figure will increase substantially when

the Kaimai railway tunnel is opened and Waikato co-opera-tives begin to export through Tauranga." The Auckland Farmers’ Freezing Company would finance, build and operate the store.

“The financial arrangements have been completed, and everything is ready to go," said Sir Andrew Linton. The store would be designed to be easily extended, probably in 1970, the projected opening date for the Kaimai tunnel.
