Truck-Driving Contest

A driving and cargohandling competition for Christchurch truck drivers will be held at the Christchurch City Council’s Tuam street car park on Saturday, October 1. It will be the first such competition arranged by the Canterbury Driver Trainers’ Association, and the first in New Zealand to include cargo-handling tests. The association was formed by truck drivers about a year ago, and trains new drivers whose employers arrange for them to take the course. So far there are 10 entries for the competition, and it is hoped to have 12. Drivers will compete for a trophy presented by Mr D. A. R. Mcßeth and cups presented by the association. The Mcßeth Trophy will be for annual competition. The tests will be held with flat-deck trucks although it is hoped to include articulated vehicles in future competitions.
