E. Germans Dominant

East Germans dominated the first day of the world rowing championships on Lake Bled yesterday. They qualified for the finals or semi-finals of all seven events.
New Zealand oarsmen will row in repechages in a last attempt to reach the finals. The singles scull champion, M. P. Watkinson. was third in his heat, and New Zealand was third in a heat of the eights.
Watkinson's time for the 2000-metre course was 7min 35.895ec, compared to the heat-winning time of 7:19.23 by N. H. Secher (Denmark). ! In the eights, the West German crew set the fastest time in the heats, with 6min [s.32sec.
The New Zealand eight finished third behind Jugoslavia and Holland in its heat.
