FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT

Situation.—A depression centred east of Cook Strait is moving away towards the east.

Forecast: Canterbury and Coastal Marlborough.— Fresh to strong south-west winds; cold and changeable with showers of rain and hail with snow on the hills to low levels. Outlook: showers. Central Marlborough and Nelson.—Moderate southerly winds; some scattered showers about the ranges, elsewhere partly cloudy and cool. Outlook: little change.

Buller and Westland.—Moderate variable winds; occasional showers; considerable fair intervals; cool temperatures. Outlook: little change.
