Pay Rise For Judiciary

WELLINGTON, September 9.

Pay rises for judges, magistrates and county chairmen are authorised under a Statutes Amendment Bill introduced in Parliament today.

For judges and magistrates the rise is £135 a year. Retrospective to April 1, the Chief Justice will receive

£5585 yearly, the President of the Court of Appeal £5335, and other Supreme Court judges, the judge of the Land Valuation Court and the judge of the Arbitration

Court £5085. The judge of the Compensation . Court will receive £4835. an additional judge of

the Arbitration Court £4485, and a judge of the Land Valuation Court or the Compensation Court £4235.

Magistrates will receive £3635 annually, also from April 1. For county chairmen, the

new maximum allowances, based on population, will be: up to 5000. £500; 5000-10.000. £750: 10,000-20.000. £1000: 20,000-50.000, £1250; more than 50.000, £l5OO.

The present rates are: up to 10,000. £500: 10.000-20.000. £750: more than 20,000, £lOOO.

Increases for mayors of municipalities were authorised recently.
