DEADHEAT FINISH
(N.Z. Press Association> WELLINGTON A dead heat in the bovs under-14 breaststroke was the highlight of the international swimming at the Freyberg Pool last night. F. Hill, of Taranaki, and an Australian, J. Cottee, swam the 110 yards neck-for-neck. The time of 82.0 seconds is the fastest recorded by 13-year-old boys in New Zealand. Christine Beakes, a 12-year-old Australian star, won five events and her times were all of a high quality. W. Devenish had good wins in the boys backstroke and freestyle. Julie Sugden, of New South Wales, caused a stir when she won the girls’ under 14 HO yards freestyle In the excellent time of *6.7sec, just outside the New Zealand womens record for the distance.
W’. Devenish chopped over sis seconds off the junior boys’ 440 yards freestyle record with a swim that spreadeagled the field.
