Restitution Sought
(From Our Own Reporter) TIMARU, Aug. 31. Magistrates should be required to order restitution of fares, submitted Mr D. Donaldson (Waikato) in support of a remit to the Taxi Proprietors’ Federation annual conference today. Other sections of the community were reimbursed, and it was inconceivable that taxi Operators should not be treated the same way, he said. There was a recent case where a fare had thrown a bottle of beer at a driver, Mr Donaldson said.
Another delegate told the meeting that a bottle had been thrown at his cab.
The Minister of Police (Mr Allen) will be asked to instruct his department to seek restitution of fares, costs, and damages where action has been taken against a person where a taxi is involved.
