U.S. Citizens Sentenced fA’.Z. Pre,, Alin —Capvriphf > BUDAPEST. Aug. 30 Two young American citizens. John Savko, aged 25. and his brother, Michael, aged 23, were sentenced to three months’ imprisonment by a Budapest court today on charges of public incitment. United Press International reported. The brothers admitted having defaced a poster depicting American planes dropping bombs on Vietnam. They changed the United States insignia shown on the bombers into a Soviet star. The brothers were arrested on June 30. They have been in prison here since then. The two months the Savko brothers already have spent in gaol have been credited to the sentence. After serving their term, they will be expelled from Hungary. They come from Van-Nuys, California. They admitted the charges but added that they did not realise that this was punishable in Hungary. The Hungarian news agency. M.T.1., said the brothers testified that their action was intended as a “witticism” and was not prompted by political considerations. The brothers said they had not been aware that defacing the poster was a punishable offence. M.T.I. reported. John Savko is an insurance investigator. His brother has been studying for the priesthood.
