Kurrajong Prominent At Woodville

Kurrajong, second to Blue Defaulter over hurdles at Foxton last week-end, will make his cross-country debut in the Tally Ho Steeplechase at Wanganui tomorrow. His trainer, J. P. Carter, said yesterday that he was unlikely to start in the Okehu Hurdles.

Kurrajong worked well in his final trial, galloping a solid six furlongs with Coalseam and Martin Lee. After the trial Carter said there were doubts about Wanganui starts for Martin Lee and Just Sam. Caplin excelled in a gallop over a mile with Summer Flight and Olympian. E. Ropiha, who trains all three, said he would not start Olympian at Wanganui. All the fast work took place on the course proper where tha going was cutting out.

Kurrajong and Coalseam worked keenly to run six furlongs in Imin 25 l-ssec, good time for jumpers. Coalseam was moving boldly at the end. The final three took 42 l-ssec.

Caplin, Summer Flight, and Olympian ran a mile in Imin 52 2-ssec, with Caplin slightly ahead of Summer Flight at the end. They ran their last six In Imin 24sec. and the final three in 43 l-ssec.

Royal Red ran a useful five furlongs in Imin Ssec, taking 40 3-ssec for the last three. He is improving steadily, but may not be ready to make a winning run. Happy Jan prepared for the Wanganui Thousand by clearing eight flights of hurdles safely, and then outsprinting Marine over five furlongs in Imin 6 3- the final three in 40 4-
