DWINDLING CROWDS
Only 8874 persons paid to attend Canterbury’s three home Plunket Shield matches last season and in one of these, against Otago, the host association lost money. The attendances became progressively smaller. The Auckland match attracted 4595 for the three days and the match profit was £254; 2882 watched Northern Districts play and helped towards a match profit of £6l; and 1397 watched Otago play, causing the Canterbury Cricket Association a loss of £43.
