Want To Buy Land
(N.Z. Press Association) ROTORUA, Aug. 31. American land-buying syndicates would soon be paying a lot of attention to investment opportunities in New Zealand, an American businessman, Dr. C. W. Koberg, said in Rotorua today. Dr. Koberg said the syndicates were at present concentrating on Australia, but he felt more attention would soon be given to New Zealand. Australia and New Zealand could become the “bread-baskets” of a great part of the world. Dr. Koberg, who is touring the country with
the American National Society of Home-Builders, is gathering information on farmland investment possibilities. Land appeared to be dear in New Zealand, but it had a high production potential. Apart from the high taxation, pastures needed a lot of fertiliser and there were trace element deficiencies. However, huge syndicates with “worlds” of money could make a financial proposition out of large areas of land not at present utilised in New Zealand. Greater use of hill country for grain and vegetable growing could be made, he said.
