LADBROOKS C.W.I.

Cold weather did not deter the crowd from the Ladbrooks Country Women’s Institute 34th birthday party and concert last week. Members sarg the institute song and Mrs A. Habgood welcomed the guests. Mrs H. Coleman lit the candles on the birthday cake and these were fanned out by Mrs E. Gallagher. The vicepresident of the Canterbury East federation (Mrs J. E.l Bowden) cut the cake which had been iced by a Ladbrooks member, Mrs T. Stone. Mrs L. Pickering won the cups which were presented for most points in the handcraft and floral sections and Mrs L. Stone was runner-up in both sections. Members performed two plays “Bride at Last,” | "Bristle While You Work,” a mime “Jumble Warfare” and a bracket of Maori items.
