C.B.H.S. And Timaru Lead
Timaru and Chrlstehureh Boys’ High School are favoured In the A grade section of the Canterbury secondary schools' golf tournament after the first day's play yesterday. The outcome could well be decided when Christchurch plays Timaru in the last round If St. Andrew's College beats Timaru this morning,, it will enter the reckoning. Fourteen teams competed in near-perfect conditions and in the first round. Timaru and Christchurch both lost only one game. T. Robinson (Christ's College) accounted for the Timaru number five player, D. Beswarick, 4 and 3, while the number one Christchurch player, R. W. Anderson, went down to P. Hay of Burnside High School, 2 and 1. Lincoln High Schoo-1, playing in the competition for the first time, caused an upset by holding the strong St. Andrew's College team to a 3-all draw. W, Bailey, G. Ogg, and R. Berwick, of Lincoln, overcame consider able handicap deficits to defeat their opposite numbers in the St. Andrew’s team.
