Third In Nine Months
This car is the third in nine months involved in an accident at the level crossing on the Main North road in Kaiapoi. Two women and a child were injured yesterday afternoon when the car hit the Picton - Christchurch rail-car at the crossing. The driver of the car Mary Aileen Rita Ward, married, of
86 Ohoka road, suffered leg injuries and abrasions, and was treated at the Christchurch Hospital and discharged. Darryl Mark Ward, aged two, suffered leg injuries and was admitted to the hospital, and Mrs Alison Williams, of the same address, suffered abrasions, and was treated and discharged. The accident happened at 3.52 p.m. when the car was travelling towards Christchurch. The car struck the left side of the rail-car, smashed the standard of a signal light, smashed a wooden railing. and stopped upside down against a fence post. •M

Last evening the Railways Depart- ; ment reported that signalling i equipment at the crossing was . back to normal. ■ The department's resident . signals engineer (Mr B. D. , Nash) said last evening that . he knew of no plans to ini stall barrier arms at the crossing.
