SOCIAL STUDIES
“Changing civilisations” Is book 2 in the Looking at Social Studies series by B. G. Calvert and A. G. Manson. It is a thoughtful and useful effort to meet the needs of junior pupils in core social studies. Because the syllabus is so wide, this book interestingly concentrates on significant or typical movements in discovery, economic growth, and national trends in the Pacific, South-east Asia, China, and Japan, India, Latin America, Africa, and 'the Middle East. For these I areas up-to-date textbooks are ! scarce. With a well-balanced text and, more particularly, a big range of maps, comparative tables, illustrations, and diagrams, this book (published by Whit combe and Tombs) will be welcomed.
