FAULTS IN BRAKES

Ford Recalls Some Cars

<N.Z. Press Association)

WELLINGTON, Aug. 29.

Ford dealers throughout New Zealand will recall all Cortina GTs, Lotus Cortinas and Corsairs V4s made between October, 1965, and August. 1966, for brake modifications.

The Ford Company of New Zealand’s industrial relations manger (Mr M. Norman) said today this move was being done in line with the British Ford company’s action. Ford engineers have found that certain modifications will improve the disc brakes of the three types of cars. They have discovered that water collects on the pads in heavy rain and impairs even braking. Mr Norman described the modifications as “minor.” He said the cars involved were not assembled by Ford in New Zealand. He said he believed about 100 of these cars had been privately imported to New Zealand. Dealers would get in touch with the owners.

He believed the modifications would be undertaken at the company’s expense.
