Feeble Opening To Week’s Trading
Turn-overs were down and the range of stocks was narrower in a feeble start to trading on New Zealand stock exchanges yesterday. Falls outnumbered rises two to one, key stocks leading the easier trend.
Fluctuations, both up and down, were mainly narrow, and there was no pattern to the market. On the Christchurch exchange interest centred on industrials and retailers, but even in this section turn-over was the lowest for a week.
Dominion Breweries at 16s 7d, South British at 30s Id and N.Z. Forest Products at 24s Id each recovered Id, but Southland Frozen Meat, Newton King, Alliance, Prestige, A. and T. Burt, Bing Harris, National Electric, and Schofield each lost 3d. New Zealand Refining at 39s 6d and Reid Rubber at 26s both lost 6d.
