Altig Snatches World Title

The West German, Rudi Altig, passed J. Anquitil and R. Poulidar of France to snatch by inches a last-minute victory in the 1966 world professional road cycling championship on Sunday. Altig, aged 28, broke loose in the last six miles of the 12-lap 170-mile race. His time was 7hr 31min lOsec.
The title-holder, T. Simpson of Britain, retired with leg cramp in the ninth lap.
