f.V.Z. Press Association) HAMILTON. A special challenge for the Ranfurly Shield by Bay of Plenty has not been accepted by Waikato. Bay of Plenty, which beat Waikato 19-6 at Whakatane on August 20, has lost its chance of a shield challenge against Auckland, scheduled for September 13. The Waikato Rugby Union management committee chairman, Mr F. P. O’Connor, said Bay of Plenty’s request was considered by the union’s emergency committee yesterday. “Because of our very heavy programme, we would not have the opportunity to play Bay of Plenty,” he said.
