White Wines Praised

(NT. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Aug. 29. The quality of sweet white table wines “showed a remarkable advance on entries in previous exhibitions,” said judges of the tenth annual New Zealand wine exhibition just ended in Auckland. The exhibition was held by the Department of Industries and Commerce in conjunction with the Viticultural Advisory Committee. A panel of 11 judges was engaged in groups of eight each day for five days to judge a record number of 368 entries in 11 classes. Awards were made as follows: GOLD AWARDS Commercial Unfermented grape juice: Totara Vineyards Syc., Ltd. (2). Dry white table wine: Totara Vineyards Syc., Ltd., reserve dry white: Western Vineyards, Ltd., ReisMng hock, 1965. Sweet white table wine: McWiMiam’s Wines (N.Z.), Ltd., Te Awanga sauternes, 1962: Montana Wines, Ltd., sauternes. Sparkling and carbonated wine: Corban’s Wines, Ltd., premiere cuvee medium, premiere cuvee dry.
