Methodists Give More
Much of the finance given to the Methodist Church was coming from those who were “not fully fledged church members,” Mr D. A. White told the annual synod of the North Canterbury district of the Methodist Church.
The money given from such sources allowed the Church to reach more people. A report adopted by the meeting said that in 1965 40 per cent of stewardship pledges were new ones, and “for many of these people, this act of commitment in a financial way is the beginning of a more active part in the life of the Church, and this opportunity cannot be denied to anyone.” There had been an increase of 8 per cent in the giving by people in the North Canterbury’ district over the last year, Mr White said.
