Taranaki At Its Best

The Taranaki Rugby team played its best game of the season when it beat North Auckland by 12 points to 3 at New Plymouth on Saturday. The Taranaki forwards during the second spell were in devastating form and dominated the possession.

The Taranaki winger. L. Clarke, was the first of four to leave the field injured, but not before he scored a brilliant try after wrong-footing the North Auckland full-back. K. T. Going. B. O’Dowda, K. O’Learv (Taranaki) and D. Panther (Auckland) were the others hurt

The scorers were: Taranaki, tries, L. Clarke, W. R. Coles, F. Harris: penalty goal. B. O’Dowda. North Auckland, penalty goal, K. T. Going. The Bay of Plenty beat North Otago. 22-3, at Rotorua. Bay of Plenty led 11-3 at half-time. It was North Otago's fifth loss of a five-match North Island tour. Sco-ers were:—Bay of Plenty tries by E. Beattie (2). R. J. Conway, D. .1. Aragember, D. R Mohi and W. J. Potae. Potae kicked two conversions. North Otago: try by 0. Grant EARLY VICTORY Hawke’s Bay scored all its points in the first half to beat South Canterbury, 21-8, in a representative Rugby match at Hastings on Saturday. South Canterbury never looked like upsetting the Bay team. Its forwards could not match the drive of Hawke’s Bay and the backs failed to run the ball. Half-time score, 21-3. Six players left the field through injury, four from Hawke’s Bay and two from South Canterbury. These involved both captains, T. Johnson (Hawke’s Bay) and P. Ryan (South Canterbury). For Hawke’s Bay. R. Bishop converted three tries and kicked a penalty goal. M. Duncan scored two tries, K. Crawford, D. Smith one. For South Canterbury R. Halliday scored a try, Beardsley converted and kicked a penalty goal. A late run by East Coast saw it just fail to draw with Auckland Colts, at Tokomaru Bay. Auckland Colts won 17-15 after leading 11-9 at half-time. Scorers:—Auckland Colts: tries, R. Potter, W. Currey, K. May: conversion R. Currie: penalty goals, R. Currie (2). East Coast: tries, T. Taare, D. Walker; penalties, Pakurangi (3).

Manawatu B was much too strong and beat Bush B 39-6 at Palmerston North. The half-time score was 20-3.

For Manawatu tries were scored by M. O'Callaghan (4), D. Brown (2), D. Berg (2), J. Carroll (2). R. Pratt. J. Thompson kicked two conversions and R. Pratt kicked one conversion. For Bush A. Gibbs scored a try and R. Burmister kicked a penalty. In wet, muddy conditions at Masterton, Wellington Colts beat Walrarapa B 23-5. The half-time score was 9-0.

Wellington's-points came from tries by W. Trotter <2), B. Teen, W Nicholls, S. Letica, P. Burge and R Steele. For Wairarapa I. Stringfellow scored a try which B. Payton converted.

The Taranaki Colts beat the touring Colden Bay-Motueka Colts by 11 points to 3 at New Plymouth on Saturday. The Taranaki team was generally too strong.
