RACECOURSE WORKERS

Pay Rises In New Award Workers under the Wellington, Marlborough, Nelson, Westland, Canterbury, Otago, and Southland racecourse employees’ award have been granted weekly pay rises ranging from 15s 2d to 18s in a new award effective from August 18. 1966, until Febraury 18, 1968. The award applies to all outside workers employed by racing, trotting and hunt clubs except such people as totalisaor employees and others specifically excluded under the award. It does not apply to any worker receiving a maximum of £lO7O annually, exclusive of overtime. Minimum weekly pay rates are now: gardeners, £l6 17s 6d, an increase of 18s; track controllers, caretakers, or custodians, £l5 15s (17s 3d); trackmen ,£l4> 17s (16s 6d); groundsmen, £l4 8s (15s 7d); and any male worker not otherwise specified, £l4 3s (15s 2d).
