RACING Convincing Win By L ’Arc At Tauherenikau

"The Press” Special Servlet

PALMERSTON NORTH.

L’Arc, which had looked a little unlucky at Hastings at his previous start, convincingly won the Booth Memorial Handicap, first leg of the T.A.B. double at the Carterton Racing Club’s meeting at Tauherenikau on Saturday.

L’Arc won by a length and three-quarters from Fleeting Moment, a solid finisher once he worked away from the rails and into the clear.

L’Arc, capably ridden by the Wanganui apprentice, R. T. Cleaver, drifted well back early, but a strong run from the half-mile took him to the leaders on the turn and he quickly settled the issue. Lei was half a length back third. R. A. Jenkins worked her into a good trailing position from the start, and although she battled on gamely at the finish she could find nothing extra. Vigour was not far away fourth. He made ground from the top of the straight. Rahunui shaped well for fifth after being in the rear group at the half-mile. Tax Evader was running on for sixth ahead of the pacemaker Garnishee, which stopped from the turn. Justify (eighth) failed to run on after racing handy, but wide out to the turn. Next home were Paper Kiwi, Pomare, So True, Misjudge, Hello Kinfel, Roodyvoo and Top Lad. Riccarton’s Misjudge was buried in the ruck from the outset. He showed no dash and was well beaten at the finish. THIRTEENTH WIN David Jeff won his thirteenth race for his Woodville trainer, P. S. McColl, when he took the Jurie Stakes, second leg of the main double. It was an impressive victory by the Resurgent gelding, which was ridden with admirable judgment by the Hastings apprentice, M. Donoghue. McColl was forced to limit his

activities more than a year ago when he became ill. David Jeff was well back after a furlong, but his young rider elected to take him up soon after the half-mile. He improved quickly on the home turn, took charge quickly and ran home a decisive winner. Samuel, which drifted in the early running, impressed with his fine late burst for second. After drifting in the middle stages, Allbut came home fast on the Inside for third. A feature of the race was the fine late run of Autobe. He was well back at the half-mile and ran strongly in the last furlong. He missed third by a narrow margin. Autobe was followed home by General Derby, Scramble, Monetary, Dear Pal, Foxy Boy. Carnbeg, Lucky Rebel, Grisbi, and the early pacemaker, They Told Me. Results:— DALEFIELD HACK HURDLES, £400; lim.—2/3 HUMBER (3) car 9-10 G. F. Laurenson 1; 1/1 THAT’S IT (1) 9-11 G.
