Eight nations have deposited instruments of ratification of the agreement setting up the Asian Development Bank with the SecretaryGeneral, U Thant. This brings the total of ratifications to 14. When one more is received, the bank, whose basic task is to foster regional economic growth and co-operation, will formally come into existence. Afghanistan is expected to ratify the charter soon. The bank’s authorised capital of 1000 million dollars, including 650 million dollars from Asian States, has been over-subscribed.
