'THOUGH the “costerx monger” has become the “street salesman,” or more familiarly the "barrow boy,” he is still living in the tradition of commercial independence. Under ideal conditions, he is his own governor and he has hawked his basket of wares or pushed his barrow of fruit and vegetables through the streets of Lambeth since the beginnings of London’s commercial history. —Brian Hungerford in a 8.8.
