TROTTING ROBIN DUNDEE SPRINT FANCY

Class Should Ensure Addington Win

One of the major attractions at Addington Raceway today will be the reappearance of Robin Dundee in the Lightning Handicap.

Although Mr J. W. Hewitt’s brilliant Hal Tryax mare will concede up to 36 yards to her 10 rivals, she is almost certain to be a dominating favourite for this sprint event on the first day of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s national meeting.

Even if Robin Dundee happens to be a bit below her peak—and that is always possible at this time of the year —her class should still carry her through. Twelve months ago Robin Dundee started and was beaten by Jay Ar in the Lightning Handicap. But on that occasion the race had a 2:11 limit and catered only for horses in or near New Zealand Cup class. Robin Dundee, from 24 yards, gave Jay Ar a 12-yard start and ran him to less than a length. This time she is only 12 yards worse in a

race with a 2:13 limit and does not have to cope with a rival with anything like the sprinting talents of Jay Ar. Robin Dundee’s strongest rival today could also come from among those on the 12yard mark. Lyndhurst, one of three on this mark, is bound to receive solid backing if he performs well in the Louisson Handicap earlier in the day. Although he failed to win a race last season Lyndhurst showed that he was well forward to start another campaign by winning at the race trials at Orari the week before last.

Dieppe and Password will form a formidable bracket for C. S. Donald's Belfast stable. Both showed good form and marked sprinting ability in their races last season. Bright Highland, a capable pacer but not always the most reliable of beginners, and Happy Songster, a laststart winner which has shaped well in training this week, could be the best of the others off the limit. Today’s T.A.B. double will be run on the Louisson and Christchurch Handicaps. Doctor Barry and Uteena might be the successful combination. There will be a double for course patrons only on the Templeton Handicap and the Four-year-old Stakes. A fancied combination will be Indecision and Atanui. Continued fine weather is forecast so the track will be firm and fast.
