WEEK’S RECESS?

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 19. The Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) said in Parliament today that he could not have informed Parliament first about his decision to attend the Commonwealth Prime Ministers’ conference because of “certain obligations on the other side of the world.” Mr Holyoake said on Thursday that he would attend the

conference, which will be held from September 6 to 15. The Prime Minister said he would leave on Friday, September 2, and return on September 20. “I do not exclude the possibility of a week’s recess. The time for it would be sometime between September 2 and 20.” Mr Holyoake said that although some legislation was still to be introduced he did not think there would be anything of a major or controversial nature. The Leader of the Opposition (Mr Kirk) said: “We are glad the Prime Minister has decided to go to the conference. “We believe he should go and we feel he has made the right decision in this respect.”
