KAINGA AREA POWER
Change Sought In Supply The desire of Stewarts Gully and Kainga residents to receive electricity from the Christchurch Municipal Electricity Department rather than the North Canterbury Electric Power Board was referred to in a letter from the New Zealand Electricity Department, considered by the Waimairi County Council. In May, residents petitioned the council, asking for a change of supplier. They complained of the board’s higher tariff, and of low voltage problems. The department's letter stated that power charges were not controlled, and there was no means of compelling a change in a particular area. If the supply was unsatisfactory, it should be taken up with the board. The council agreed that the county chairman (Mr O. C. Mitchell) and Cr. A. A. Adcock should arrange a meet- . ing with the board.
