Rugby Protest Ended
(N.Z. Press Association i WELLINGTON, Aug. 19. The Rev. Keith Elliott. V.C., is a Rugby follower again. He deserted the game six years ago when Maoris were excluded from the AH Blacks’ team which toured South Africa. In 1960 he joined the public protest by breaking ties with the sport, stayed away from games, and stopped wearing his V.C. and other medals. But a fortnight ago, he saw the All Blacks beat the Lions at Athletic Park and now he wears his medals when the occasion demands it. He says the reason for his change of face is that "the Rugby Union has now decided not to send teams to South Africa which exclude the Maoris, and that's a decision which doesn’t conflict with my Christian beliefs.”
