VISCOUNT IN USE

All Four To Fly Today All four N.A.C. Viscounts should be in service today, the Christchurch branch manager (Mr J. E. Davies) said yesterday. “The corporation is meet ing the demand for seats over the school holidays," he said. The Viscount, which was withdrawn from service on Wednesday because of a minor surface crack under a wing, was in use again yesterday. “It was a crack we get occasionally on Viscounts,” said rN.A.C.’s chief maintenance engineer (Mr A. J. Smaill). “It was found during an overnight check. Two other planes have had them at other times it is nothing unusual for a Viscount.” Another Viscount which was grounded last week because of cracking in a tail fitting was test-flown yesterday and was expected to be in service this morning. Spare parts for it were flown from Britain. The four Viscounts were grounded at one stage recently when three were found to have similar defects in the tailplane attachment fittings.
