FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—An intense anti-cyclone centred south-east of Cook Strait is moving slowly eastwards. Forecast: Canterbury and Kaikoura Coast. —Light to moderate variable winds, north-easterlies predominating; fine, apart from scattered morning fog or low cloud patches, but increasing high cloudiness during the day; moderate afternoon temperatures. Outlook: mainly cloudy with some rain in the ranges. Marlborough, except the Kaikoura Coast, and Nelson.—North-easterlies, freshening about the sounds; elsewhere light or moderate variable winds; mainly fine, apart from some morning fog or low cloud patches, but cloud generally increasing in western areas later; moderate afternoon temperatures. Outlook: cloud; some rain developing during the day. Buller and Westland.—Light or moderate variable winds; skies becoming cloudy and some rain developing in the south, probably during the afternoon: moderate afternoon temperatures. Outlook: overcast.
