Sound Addington Trial By Happy Songster
Although he had no ' chance of matching Waitaki Hanover, Happy Songster worked pleasingly at Addington Raceway yesterday morning. He will make a fresh start in the Lightning Handi- | cap tomorrow.
The training was done in fine, cool weather on a fast track. A moderate northerly wind slowed times in the front straight. Waitaki Hanover made the pace and finished clear of Happy Songster at the end of 12 furlongs in 3min 16 2-ssec, the last half-mile in 1 min 3-ssec, and the final quarter in 31 2-ssec. Happy Songster was inclined to work lazily, but not as sluggishly as when worked alone. He is making rapid progress. Waitaki Hanover will strip a very fit horse for the £l5OO National Handicap on the second night of the meeting. Turbulence made the pace ifor Chief Command in a run over two miles in 4min 34 2- the last half-mile easily in lmin 7sec, and the final quarter in 32 2-ssec. White Martial, assisted by a galloping pacemaker, ran the same distance in 4min 43 3- the last half-mile in lmin 3 3-ssec, and the final I quarter in 31 3-ssec.
Bragen and Lustre Scott finished ahead of West End at the finish of 12 furlongs in 3mln 27sec, the last halfmile in lmin 6sec, and the final quarter in 30 4-ssec. All three are coming to hand | well.
Highland Globe finished clear of Pimiento at the end of 12 furlongs in 3min 23sec, the last half-mile in lmin ssec, and the final quarter in 33 2-ssec. Highland Globe has done well lately. Adorato worked easily on his own over two miles in 4mln 38 4-ssec, the last quarter in 35 4-ssec. He has thrived and will be a popular fancy in the August Handicap.
Town Martial, which is carrying plenty of surplus condition, worked comfortably throughout 12 furlongs in 3min 23 2-ssec, the last half-mile in lmin ssec, and the final quarter in 32 2-ssec. He will be driven by O. M. Quinlan in the Lightning Handicap. Cathpete finished almost on terms with Vantage at the end of 12 furlongs in 3min 26sec, the last half-mile in lmin 3 2-ssec, and the final quarter in 31 3-ssec. Montage worked easily on his own over 12 furlongs in 3min 32 l-ssec, the last halfmile in lmin 5 l-ssec, and the final quarter in 32 4-ssec.
