AUSTRALIAN STEEL
B.H.P, Raises Prices The Broken Hill Proprietary Company, Ltd., has announced that increased prices for steel products sold by B.H.P. and Australian Iron and Steel Pty. Ltd., will apply from August 15, 1966. The amount of the increase will vary from 82 to $4.50 a ton according to type of product the increase averaging approximately 3j per cent During the last 18 months the company has found it necessary to absorb cost increases over a wide range of essential materials and services. The recent basic wage increase has added substantially to this cost pressure. The price adjustments now being made will only recover these higher costs. Even with the present rise, however. Australian steel users will still be supplied at prices which compare most favourably with the domestic prices of overseas countries.
