University Traffic

Traffic created by the University of Canterbury at Ham had altered the pattern to the point where re-timing of the Fendalton road-Clyde roadMemorial avenue lights was necessary, and the same problem was being felt at the Clyde road-Creyke road crossing, said the Transport Department, in a report to the Waimairi County Council’s meeting last night. The report said that the Ham traffic was nowhere near its peak, with the biggest growth likely over the next six years.

This would lead to parking problems, increased flow of traffic in adjoining streets, and conflict at intersections. Planning should be done now instead of waiting until chaos developed. The council authorised the department to discuss the position, particularly the provision of off-street parking, with the university, and asked that it be kept fully informed.
