SALVAGING PAROTO
Plan To Bum Hull Twenty plugs of gelignite failed to blow a bole in the stern of the derelict coaster Paroto at Point Gibson, let alone free the valuable propellers and shaft, so the salvagers now plan to burn the wooden hull. Mr P. Cunningham, of Metal Reclaims Ltd., said yesterday that the attempt to burn the ship would not be made for about a week. An offer had also been made by someone in Dunedin for the mast of the Paroto, but it would be difficult to salvage it without breaking it. The Paroto is now break ing up, and has a 12ft breach in the port side. Waves have been breaking right over the vessel. The engine and dinghy have now been removed and sold.
