COUNCIL OF YOUTH
Salvation Army Plans About 300 delegates from the Canterbury and Westland division of the Salvation Army would attend the division’s annual youth council in Christchurch on September 4 and 5, said the divisional youth officer (Captain B. McStay).
Captain McStay said the week-end council would be conducted by Commissioner C. Davidson, of Wellington, and Lieutenant-Colonel E. R. Elliot, also of Wellington. Brigadier G. Norman, a New Zealand Salvation Army officer who had done missionary service in South America, would also attend.
The programme would open on Saturday afternoon with a united outdoor basketball tournament at Cowles Stadium, said Captain McStay. On Saturday evening there would be a united open-air witness in Cathedral square. Also on Saturday evening the council would hold a musical festival in the Salvation Army Citadel, Victoria square. Choral and modem songs would be presented by songster groups from Linwood, Sydenham and Christchurch city. On Sunday, services would be held at 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. in the Horticultural Hall, Cambridge terrace. Commissioner Davidson Would speak at each service, and Mr G. Baughen, from Ashburton, a member of the National Council 'f Churches work party, would also give an address.
