Hal Tryax Prominent In All Age Groups
Hal Tryax, which is unlikely to leave any further foals, headed two of the six age groups for pacers in siring statistics for the 1965-66 season.
Hal Tryax topped the list of two-year-olds and also that of aged pacers. His only representative, Holy Hal, won more than the progeny of any
other stallion among the two-year-olds. Hal Tryax was particularly successful with aged horses, seven of his 18 starters winning races, their total stakes amounting to £24,855. Much of this was amassed by the
champion mare, Robin Dundee. Hal Tryax was runner-up to Thurber Frost as the sire of three-year-old winners, well down in eighth place as the sire of four-year-olds and third as the sire of five and six-year-old winners. Thurber Frost is the only stallion still available to breeders to head one of the six lists for pacers. Thurber Frost had 14 starters among the three-year-olds, seven of them winning races. The three-year-olds, his first New Zealand crop of foals, won £6045, £145 more than the progeny of Hal Tryax, which included the New Zealand Derby Stakes winner, Bass Strait, and the Great Northern Derby Stakes winner, Tutta Ttyax. Statistics were taken out only for four age groups among the trotters, the lists for six-year-olds and aged horses being headed by Light Brigade. My Chief headed the list of five-year-olds, and Light Brigade’s son, Court Martial, was on top among the four-year-olds. In. the tables below the number of live foals credited to each stallion in a particular year do not take into account the number of each crop exported. In some cases many foals of some crops of several stallions have gone to Australia or the United States.
