BRIGHTER START TO TRADING
Stock exchange trading made a brighter start yesterday 7, rises heading falls 21 to 13 and 45 stocks changing hands at steady prices. Key stocks were slightly firmer than the rest of the market.
Turn-over on the Christchurch exchange was moderate, with woollens and textiles giving a lift to trading. Insurances were firmer, with New Zealand Insurance up 8d to 24s 6d, South British up 4d to 30s 6d and National up Id to 23s 4d. C.P.D. old and B shares moved up 3d each on higher profit news.
Southland Frozen Meat fell 6d to 20s, Morrison-P.LM. 9d to 20s and New Zealand Sea Products 3d to 4s 3d. Marac, Autocrat, Consolidated Plastics, Early Brothers, New Zealand Farmers’ Fertiliser, Tappenden and Wilson and Horton each fell 3d.
