Law Clerk Attacked
(N.Z. Press Association)
DANNEVIRKE, August 15. A Dannevirke law clerk was admitted to hospital tonight after he was attacked by an intruder he found in the strongroom of his employer’s office at 8.45 tonight. He is Mr Colin Lyttle, about 40, who suffered serious injury to his hand caused by a sharp instrument believed to be a screwdriver the burglar was carrying. Mr Lyttle returned to the office this evening to find the strongroom door open and was attacked by the burglar, whom he surprised inside the strongroom.
A violent struggle took place during which Mr Lyttle’s hand was cut, and the intruder escaped through an open window in another room.
Late tonight no trace had been found of the attacker.
