SAFETY STRIP.—A Lightning fighter entering a prepared gravel strip at 80 miles an hour at the Royal Aircraft Establishment, Farnborough, to test a soft-ground arresting technique. It is hoped to develop the strip for ese at civil airports to prevent aircraft overshooting the end of the runway.
